Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hard surfaces

A revitalized Medvedev claimed his maiden title for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult season, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in specific - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and eventually splitting with long-term mentor Cervara.

Currently working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents his maiden title following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface from March of the previous year.

Victory also indicates he has achieved twenty-one titles at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters at once, so to win a trophy is really nice," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my child Victoria, because the first title I got when my child Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his last six championship matches, comprising in Halle in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and frequent outbursts on court had caused some to doubt if his skill to compete at the top level was over.

However the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and perform positively, reinforced by an better service.

The champion came back from a deficit in the first set against the challenging opponent, securing four of the last five exchanges to go ahead.

The pair swapped break points in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his initial professional championship, gained dominance to create a final set.

Moutet defended 4 initial opportunities in a competitive final set before the champion won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, he clinched the win with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
