The renowned publisher has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the development team at their internal studio, which is currently developing the upcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Leadership Change Follows Mixed Response
Brinkman takes on the role of studio head at the development studio following the dismissal of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's disappointing unveiling last autumn.
On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer informed staff about this strategic move through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had indicated the necessity for a more defined game identity.
Ismailer stated that the developers is now reimagining the project with a renewed vision, aiming to better meet player expectations.
A Pattern of Key Recruitment
The news follows a similar step taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on an industry veteran from the Diablo team to assist with the BioShock development group.
Here is the complete content from the president's communication:
Team—
I know you all just completed your meeting - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the recent updates. Previously I shared you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most driven and talented developers we have had the chance to partner with - and we’re excited for that partnership to continue.”
Given your hard work and adaptability, especially over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.
The community feedback from last fall’s the game demo was revealing. It affirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the requirement for a more distinct brand.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve advanced. You took the input to mind and overhauled Project ETHOS with a refreshed vision - one that’s ready to deliver on its ambition to our audience.
Our confidence in Project ETHOS increases every day. To boost the incredible progress you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome the new hire as the latest Studio Head of the team. Following a period of discussions, he starts with us on Monday, October 20.
Ben’s guidance and experience in the PVP shooter space is considerable, having devoted the recent years producing and overseeing some of the most well-known titles in gaming, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
Please join me in welcoming him soon. We are all eager to continue seeing the development of the game in the weeks to ahead.
David
